The Colorado Thunderbirds 16U National team made it back to back titles by defeating Victory Honda 2-1 in the championship game of the T1EHL league playoffs.  The games took place in Blaine, Minnesota from Friday, February 13 through Monday, February 16.  The top twelve teams from the regular season advanced to the playoffs.  The Tbirds beat five really good hockey teams outscoring their opposition 20-3 in five games.  During the round robin play, the Thunderbirds defeated the LA Jr. Kings 4-1, St. Louis Jr. Blues 5-0 and Milwaukee Jr. Admirals 4-0.  The Thunderbirds claimed the first seed after the round robin play concluded and took on a very strong Cleveland Barons team in the semi final game and won by the score of 5-1.  
That left a match up against the only team to defeat the Thunderbirds in regulation this season, Victory Honda.  They defeated the Buffalo Jr. Sabres in overtime 4-3 to advance to the final game.  The championship game was very physical and played at a very high pace with strong goaltending on both sides.  Phil Knies scored both goals to give the Thunderbirds a 2-1 win.  The Thunderbirds saw a huge push from Victory Honda in the final five minutes of the third period but they could not solve goaltender Dayton Rasmussen who made three big saves in the final minute to preserve the victory.  
Congratulations to the Colorado Thunderbirds 16U National team on winning the Tier 1 Elite League Championship for the second year in a row and three of the past four league titles.  The Thunderbirds finished the Tier 1 Elite league with a record of 27-1-1 and an overall record of 54-1-3 (the 3 were shootout losses).  The nationally ranked #3 Thunderbirds will now begin preparations in defense of their 10th straight CAHA State Championship from February 26 through March 2 in Westminster, CO.  The goal for the Thunderbirds is to earn the right to advance to the RMD Championships in Dallas, TX from March 4-8, 2015 and USA Hockey National Tournament in Amherst, NY from March 26-30, 2015.  Good Luck Thunderbirds!!!
 
A huge congrats the the Colorado Thunderbirds 16U American team as they won the T1EHL league championship for their division by defeating the Oakland Grizzlies 5-3.  This win was their fourth tournament title of the season.  It is the first time in league history that both 16U teams captured their respective league titles.  The Colorado Thunderbirds 18U team was in Blaine, MN and played very well finishing with a record of 3-1 over the weekend.  The Thunderbirds 13U team captured the Dallas Super Series by defeating the Dallas Stars Elite 5-2.  This was the fourth tournament championship of the season for the young Tbirds.  Congratulations to all of our teams on a remarkable weekend of hockey.
