2012-2013 Year in Review: Result of Preparation

Year in Review:  
During and after the 2012-13 season, a slew of Thunderbirds’ players moved on to junior hockey via league drafts, tender agreements or tryout camps, some committed to play Division I college hockey and three alums (Seth Jones, Gustav Olofsson and Quentin Shore) heard their names called at the NHL draft June 30 in New Jersey.

A total of 12 players from the Thunderbirds 18U AAA team are off to play juniors (Western Hockey League, Alberta Junior Hockey League, United States Hockey League, North American Hockey League, Eastern Junior Hockey League, Eastern Hockey League, North American 3 Hockey League) during the 2013-14 season and another nine from the 16U AAA squad are making the jump.

18U:
Mitchell Bailey – Wichita Falls Wildcats NAHL
Colin Biebel – North Iowa Bulls, NA3HL
Mason Boh – Brooks Bandits, AJHL
Ryan Charko – Walpole Express, EHL
Garrett Cologne – Brookings Blizzard, NAHL
Evan Feno – Janesville Jets, NAHL
Hayden Hawkey – Omaha Lancers, USHL
Matthew Meier – Johnstown Tomahawks, NAHL, (also committed to play for the Air Force Academy)
Philip Middleton – Topeka Roadrunners, NAHL
Bryan Owen – Rochester Jr. Stars, EJHL
Canyon Scala – Bay State Breakers, EJHL
Jesse Shelton – Topeka Roadrunners, NAHL
In addition, Alex Ochoa was tendered by the NAHL’s Amarillo Bulls.

16U:    
Brandon Carlo  - Tri-City Americans, WHL (also played for team USA at Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament over the summer)
Nate Colwell – Kenai Brown Bears, NAHL
Scott Eansor – Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL
Mikey Eyssimont – Fargo Force, USHL (also committed to St. Cloud State)
Zach Goberis – Lethbridge Hurricanes, WHL (at camp right now and if he doesn't make the team, will return to play for the 16U AAA team)          
Riley Hillis – Tri-City Americans, WHL
Cale Morris – Chicago Steel, USHL
Fredrik Olofsson – Green Bay Gamblers, USHL (also committed to Colorado College and was a member of Team Sweden at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament)
Brendan Smith – Omaha Lancers, USHL
Troy Terry – Decided to stay one more year and play for the 16U team, but did turn down an offer from the NTDP also drafted by the Indiana Ice, USHL (also committed to Denver)

Additionally the following U16 players were drafted into the USHL:
Logan Fauber was drafted by the Tri-City Storm of the USHL
Alex Overhardt was also taken in the USHL draft by the Green Bay Gamblers
Austin Shaw was selected by Omaha in the USHL draft.

*Christos Zinis from the Thunderbirds’ 15U AAA team also signed with the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors and just a notch down an age group with the Thunderbirds’ 14U AAA team, five players were chosen in the WHL bantam draft.

WHL Bantam Draft (1998):  
Jaden Anderson was drafted by the Prince Albert Raiders
Callan Foote selected by the Kelowna Rockets
Anea Ferrario was taken by the Tri-City Americans
Max Gerlach became property of the Medicine Hat Tigers
Zach Walker was drafted by the Vancouver Giants.

The Colorado Thunderbirds are pleased to announce that we were well represented at the District Festivals.  The Thunderbirds had 56 current players advance out of Colorado to their respective District Festivals.  From the districts camps, 19 Thunderbird players were selected from their respective District Festivals to advance to the USA Hockey National Player Development Camps this past summer in Buffalo, NY.
