FORMER THUNDERBIRDS,
CAL FOOTE,
PREDICTED TO BE A
1ST ROUND
NHL DRAFT PICK!

Colorado Thunderbirds is looking forward to the 2017 NHL Draft this Friday, June 23, and very excited that former Thunderbirds defenseman, Cal Foote, is predicted to be selected in the 1st Round!  Cal Foote played Colorado Thunderbirds from 2009-2015 and was Captain of the 2014-2015 Thunderbirds 16U Team that placed 3rd in the nation.  Foote played the last 2 seasons for the Kelowna Rockets.  Last season was special to the Foote family as Cal’s younger brother, Nolan, was also on the team.  Cal is the son of proud parents, former NHL defenseman, Adam, and Jenn Foote.

Colorado Thunderbirds wish Cal Foote the best of luck at the NHL Draft as he is hoping to join the list of Colorado Thunderbirds alums currently playing in the NHL:

  • Seth Jones, Columbus Blue Jackets
  • Jaccob Slavin, Carolina Hurricanes
  • Gustav Olofsson, Minnesota Wild
  • Brandon Carlo, Boston Bruins.

All of these former Colorado Thunderbirds currently playing in the NHL played for Coach Angelo Ricci who is Thunderbirds Director, 16U Head Coach, and NHL Skills Coach, and has a proven history of moving players on to the next level.  Coach Ricci feels that “Cal has the potential to be right up there with all of those players [playing in the NHL],”  and says that Cal Foote, “has a great stick, defends well, makes a terrific first pass.  In my opinion, his greatest attribute is his hockey brain.  His understanding and feel for the game is pretty special.”

Best of luck to Cal Foote and his family at the 2017 NHL Draft.  We look forward to following his continuing hockey career!
