Tbirds Fly All over USHL Draft

The 2015 USHL Futures and Main Entry Drafts were held May 4 and May 5, and the Colorado Thunderbirds continue to position players for their next level of hockey.  The Thunderbirds had 8 current players selected and 1 alumni chosen in the USHL draft.  The eight current players selected in the 2015 USHL Draft, along with 7 players selected in the 2014 USHL Draft, bring the total to 15 players drafted to the USHL from the Colorado Thunderbirds 16U National team.  The 15 players drafted were members of the Thunderbirds 16U National team which finished in 3rd place at the USA Hockey Nationals this season.

The 2015 USHL Futures Draft was held May 4, and the Colorado Thunderbirds had 4 players selected from the Tbirds 16U National team:

  • Baker Shore, a forward, was drafted by Chicago Steele in round 1, 6th overall  
  • Colby Bukes, a defenseman, was drafted by Chicago Steele in round 2, 23rd overall
  • Jake Gricius, a forward, was drafted by Green Bay Gamblers in round 4, 50th overall
  • Quinn Martin, a forward, was drafted by Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL Futures Draft in round 10, 160th overall  

The 2015 USHL Main Entry Draft was held on May 5, and the Colorado Thunderbirds was well represented with the drafting of 4 current players:

  • Philip Knies, a forward, was drafted by Sioux City in round 1, 15th overall  
  • Jovan Zimmerman, a defenseman, was drafted by Des Moines in round 13, 198th overall
  • Garrett Klee, a forward, was drafted by Madison in round 13, 200th overall
  • Josiah Slavin, a forward, was selected by Tri-City in round 14, 225th overall
  • Colorado Thunderbirds alumni, Nick Halloran, a forward, was also drafted by Sioux Falls in round 23, 364 overall in the 2015 USHL Main Entry Draft.

All players will attend their team’s main camp this summer and work to earn a spot on their USHL roster.  Congratulations to each of these players on being drafted in the USHL.  This a special day for all these young men.  The Thunderbirds continue to place our elite players in the top junior league in the country.  In the past six years, the Colorado Thunderbirds program has been fortunate to have 62 players selected in the USHL Main Entry and Futures Draft.
