The Colorado Thunderbirds are pleased to announce that four former Colorado Thunderbirds players, Brandon Carlo, Troy Terry, David Cotton, and Evan Smith were drafted today, June 27, in the 2015 NHL Draft bringing the total Thunderbirds players drafted in the NHL to 14 since 2008! Players from the Colorado Thunderbirds program continue to have excellent opportunities and to benefit from the elite training received in the organization.
Brandon Carlo, a defenseman, was drafted by Boston Bruins, round 2, #37 overall. Brandon, son of proud parents Lenny and Angie Carlo of Colorado Springs, played Colorado Thunderbirds from 2008-2013. For the past two seasons, Carlo has suited up for the WHL Tri-City Americans.
Troy Terry, a forward, was selected by the Anaheim Ducks, round 5, #148 overall. Troy played Colorado Thunderbirds from 2008-2014 before spending his 2014-2015 season with the USA Hockey’s National 18U Team. Troy will be heading back to Colorado this 2015-2016 season to start his freshman season at the University of Denver. Troy is the son of Chuck and Susan Terry of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
David Cotton, a forward, was chosen by Carolina Hurricanes, round 6, #169 overall. David, a 97 player from Parker, Texas, played Colorado Thunderbirds for the 16U team for the 2012-2013 season. He has been playing for Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA, the past 2 seasons and has committed to play for Boston College in the 2016 season. David is the son of Steve and Peggy Cotton.
Evan Smith, a goalie, was drafted by Nashville Predators, round 7, #205 overall. Evan, a netminder for the Colorado Thunderbirds from 2011-2012, played the 2014-2015 season for the NAHL Austin Bruins. Evan is the son of Paul and Vivienne Smith from Parker, Colorado.
