Congratulations to the Colorado Thunderbirds U15 team for capturing the Denver 96 Super Series championship. It was a great weekend of hockey for the U15 team. Sunday's win over the San Jose Jr. Sharks U-15 team completed a weekend of three wins, one loss and one tie.
The T-birds opened their home Super Series tournament with a disappointing loss to the Phoenix Coyotes U-15 team on Friday morning. Later that same day they battled to a 6-1 victory against the Rocky Mountain Rough Riders out shooting them 32-17 in the game. Next up for the Thunderbirds was the THP Thunder from Atlanta. Coming into this weekend the Thunder was the 2nd ranked U-15 team in the nation. With great goaltending and solid play in defensive zone the Thunderbirds skated into a 4-2 victory. Saturday afternoon our boys faced a solid team in the Dallas Stars, each team fought hard resulting in a 1-1 tie. Brock Stashick scored late in the third period to even the game up. Goaltender Austin Shaw stood on his head, facing 46 shots.
The T-birds tie vs. Dallas and the results of other tournament games cumulated in your Thunderbirds needing to win the final game of the tournament by 2 goals to officially win the tournament overall and beat the Dallas Stars in goal differential (because of the tie head to head play was not an option as a tie breaker) with 6.9 seconds left on the clock Davis Sebald scored on a San Jose empty net to give the Thunderbirds U-15 team the 4-2 win they needed.
An amazing weekend of hockey, capped off by a last minute tournament win by your Colorado Thunderbirds, their second Super Series win of the season.
