The Colorado Thunderbirds 16U team nearly capped off an incredible season falling in four overtimes in a game for the ages to Team Wisconsin by the score of 2-1 at the USA Hockey National Championships that were held in Green Bay, WI from April 2-6.  It was an epic battle with both teams leaving it all on the ice.  It would have been the program's second 16U Tier 1 National championship.  The 2009-2010 team defeated the North Jersey Avalanche 5-1 to claim the Tbirds only Tier 1 National Championship title to date.

The Tbirds won two games and lost one during round robin play.  The loss came against the eventual foe in the national title game losing to Team Wisconsin 3-2.  The Tbirds rebounded by defeating W/B Scranton 3-0 and Valley Jr. Warriors 2-1 to advance to the final 8 teams.  In the final eight teams, the Thunderbirds had to face the two biggest heavyweights during the regular season at the 16U Tier 1 level.  First it was the heavily favorite #1 HoneyBaked out of Detroit and then #2 Omaha.  In the quarter-finals, the Tbirds skated by the #1 ranked HoneyBaked team 3-1.  That set up a semi-final match up between the #2 ranked team Omaha Jr. Lancers and the third ranked Tbirds.  It was a terrific hockey game with the Tbirds edging the Lancers by the score of 1-0.

Congratulations to the Colorado Thunderbird 16U team on a phenomenal season.  The Tbirds finished the season with a record of 62-13-0 and were the Tier 1 Elite League Champions, CAHA State Champions, RMD Champions and Runner-Up at the USA Hockey National tournament.
