Thunderbirds Leave Mark on USHL Draft

The 2014 USHL Futures and Main Entry Draft was held May 5 and May 6, and the Colorado Thunderbirds continue to position players for their next level of hockey.  The Thunderbirds had 9 current players selected and 3 alumni chosen in the USHL draft.  The nine current players selected were members of the Thunderbirds 16U team which finished as the National runner-up this season.

 The 2014 USHL Futures Draft was held May 5, and the Colorado Thunderbirds had 4 players selected from the Tbirds 16U team:

Anea Ferrario, a defenseman, was drafted in the 2nd round at 25th overall by the Bloomington Thunder
Brian Hawkinson, a forward, was drafted in the 2nd round at 29th overall by the Tri-City Storm
Callan Foote, a defenseman, was drafted in the 3rd round at 46th overall by the Omaha Lancers
Max Gerlach, a forward, was drafted in the 4th round at 48th overall by the Fargo Force

The 2014 USHL Main Entry Draft was held on May 6, and the Colorado Thunderbirds were well represented with the drafting of 5 current players:

Jack Doremus, a forward, was drafted in the 8th round at 126th overall by the Chicago Steel
CJ Dodero, a forward, was drafted in 10th round at 165th overall by the Sioux City Musketeers
Keegan Mantaro, a defenseman, was drafted in the 12th round at 194th overall, by the Dubuque Fighting Saints
Bryan Yoon, a defenseman, was drafted in the 13th round at 202nd overall, by the Tri-City Storm
Alex Bates, defenseman, was drafted in the 13th round at 207th overall, by the Madison Capitols

The following Colorado Thunderbirds alumni were also drafted in the 2014 USHL Main Entry Draft:

David Cotton, a forward, was drafted in the 4th round at 61st overall, by the Dubuque Fighting Saints
Nate Colwell, a forward, was drafted in the 5th round at 84th overall, by the Dubuque Fighting Saints
Jason Cotton, a forward, was drafted in the 20th round at 325th overall, by the Sioux City Musketeers

The Colorado Thunderbirds also had one player from their 16U team, Chris Sarault, a forward, acquired by the Madison Capitols from the Omaha Lancers.  Chris was selected by the Omaha Lancers during the 2013 draft. 

All players will attend their team’s main camp this summer and work to make the active USHL roster in the next 1-2 years.  Congratulations to each of these players on being drafted in the USHL. This a special day for all these young men.  The Thunderbirds continue to place our elite players in the top junior league in the country.  In the past five years, the Thunderbirds program has been fortunate to have 53 players selected in the USHL Main Entry and Futures Draft.
