COLORADO THUNDERBIRDS
ARE EXCITED TO ADD
KEN KLEE AS
16U ASSISTANT COACH

Colorado Thunderbirds continue to add to their superior coaching staff as Ken Klee joins Head Coach David Clarkson on the 16U Team. Coach Klee will work closely with the defense as he brings a great depth of both playing and coaching experience and knowledge.

Ken Klee BIO

Coach Klee has been involved in hockey for over 40 years as a player, coach and parent. Following a 17 year professional career with 985 NHL games played he turned his attention to coaching. He has coached U8- Midgets at the youth level, developing teams that won several State Titles, qualified and attended the Quebec Pee Wee as the Jr. Avalanche, and took a team to Nationals from Colorado. He was the Head Coach of USA Women’s National Team for over 2 seasons, posting a 19-3 record, with 2 World Championships Gold Medals and 2 Four Nations Gold medals. He has coached professionally at the AHL level for the Syracuse Crunch (Tampa Bay Lightning’s affiliate) for 2 seasons. During those two seasons, the Syracuse Crunch won a North Division Title and were ranked number 1 and 3 in goals against average in the AHL and several players he helped develop were promoted to the NHL.

Coach Klee has a passion to pass along his knowledge to the next generation of players and wants to put each player in a position to succeed. Having three of his own sons that have grown up with hockey gives him an interesting perspective of understanding the challenges these young athletes face. He enjoys developing players to help them to reach their goals in hockey, and is excited to rejoin Thunderbirds where he says his older sons enjoyed a great learning experience.

All three of Coach Klee’s sons play hockey. Garrett Klee is playing for Northern Michigan (Div 1 WCHA), Mason Klee is playing for RPI (Div 1 ECAC) and David Klee playing U14AAA Syracuse Nationals.
