COLORADO THUNDERBIRDS,
BUDDY BLOM,
LEGENDARY GOALIE COACH!

Buddy Blom turned 75 in September and has been involved in the game of hockey for over 66 years as he fondly remembers attending his first tryout at 9 years old wearing galoshes since he didn't even own a pair of skates yet.  Buddy played goalie for DU from 1963-1966 where the Pioneers won the WCHA Championship in 1964 and 1966, finished 2nd in the NCAA Tournament in 1964, and 3rd in 1966.  Buddy came back to Colorado in the late 1990s and has been making a profound impact on the development of young players ever since.

Colorado Thunderbirds consider themselves one of the lucky ones to have had Coach Buddy teaching the art of goaltending to their elite young goalies from when the AAA Association first began back in 2002.  After a couple of surgeries at the beginning of this season, Coach Buddy has decided that he will retire.  He will be missed on a daily basis, but he will always have a home with the Colorado Thunderbirds and welcome to come spread his knowledge and love of the game anytime.

Coach Buddy holds a special place in the hearts of all the players, goalies, coaches, and families that he has come into contact through the years.  To know Coach Buddy Blom is to love Coach Buddy Blom.  We wish Coach Buddy the very best in his retirement!
