CONTINUE USHL DRAFT STREAK!

 

The 2017 USHL Futures and Main Entry Drafts were held May 1 and May 2 respectively, and the Colorado Thunderbirds continue to position players for their next level of hockey.  The Thunderbirds had 4 current players selected, and 1 former Thunderbirds chosen in the USHL draft.  All 4 of the current players selected in the 2017 USHL Draft were members of the Thunderbirds 16U team coached by Angelo Ricci.  

 

The 2017 USHL Futures Draft was held May 1, and the Colorado Thunderbirds had 3 current players selected from the Colorado Thunderbirds:

  • John Driscoll, defense, was drafted by Omaha in round 2, 20th overall  
  • Cal Sandquist, goalie, was drafted by Omaha in round 3, 36th overall
  • Killian Kiecker-Olson, forward, was drafted by Dubuque in round 7, 109th overall

 

The 2017 USHL Main Entry Draft was held on May 3, and the Colorado Thunderbirds had 1 current player and 1 former player chosen:

  • Mason Mannek, forward, was drafted by Omaha in round 3, 42nd overall  

Former Colorado Thunderbirds goalie, Austin Park, was drafted by Cedar Rapids in round 4, 49th overall in the 2017 USHL Main Entry Draft.

 

All players will attend their team's main camp this summer and work to earn a spot on their USHL roster.  Congratulations to each of these players on being drafted in the USHL.  This a special day for all these young men.  The Thunderbirds continue to place our elite players in the top junior league in the country.  In the past eight years, the Colorado Thunderbirds program has been fortunate to have 75 players selected in the USHL Main Entry and Futures Draft.
